love at first sniff....

i've been a huge fan of olo fragrance ever since my first encounter at nationale, my favorite little shop in portland... i now am even more in love since meeting the creator heather, who is ever so sweet and lovely. this i think is the first official line i will be carrying in the airstream shop. (ps i purchased the new violet/leather scent right as it was brought in and now will be wearing it daily....thanks heather and may!)

bountiful harvest.

we decided it was time to harvest everything we had left in the garden (with the exception of some carrots and potatoes that are still livin' in the ground till we need them...) it is such a joy to see and eat all the vegetables that we have grown on our little homestead!
carrots, potatoes, beets, onion, tomatoes, oh my.

toms. we are in the process of letting them ripen...go go green tomatoes.

zucchini, squash, and mini sugar pumpkins that we will be carving and roasting the seeds!

ora bags...

i've been looking at ora bags for quite some time now...i love that even though they are sustainable, recycling vintage garments and local upholstery scraps, they are also so sweet. i hate when i have to compromise the actual aesthetic pleasure for the sustainability aspect, there is no reason why we can have both...and ora is proof!oh, and can we take a minute and check out their photoshoot...um, perfection in my eyes. fashion, chicken, goats, oh my!

chèvre!

i've been wanting to make chèvre for quite some time now, and i finally got around to actually doing it! i have to say it was quite delectable...and i have my honey to second that. i made one lavender, one basil, and one red chili pepper flakes...yumyum.

and then little baby goats appeared in my dreams...four of them to be exact. i really want some baby goats all my own. yes, yes, i do.

...more then you know -bernie". so, i found this sweet sterling bracelet the other day at old town antique, but i was perplexed by the name Recola. At first we thought it was referrring to the cough drops, but no, those are spelled ricola. no, it is definitely a name, just not one i have ever heard of. oh well, she was a woman loved by bernie!

"for the good of all, do not destroy the birds" No.2

2. NORTHERN YELLOW-THROAT (geothlypis trichas brachidactyla)

Like a tiny black-masked highwayman, this little warbler appears as we come upon him in the underbrush of the roadside or in the thickets and bushes of fields. In song he seems to say "whichity, whichity." Like most of the warbler family, he performs a great service to man in his consumption of harmful insects. The female wears no mask. The nest is usually on or near the ground and is constructed of grasses, bark, and dead leaves and is lined with finer materials. The three to five white eggs are lightly spotted on the larger end with rufous and umber. This bird is found in eastern united states north of Pennsylvania. Very similar sub-species are found in the southern united states.

for the good of all, do not destroy the birds.

i am so hopeful about AUGUST! i have many, many plans and i am going to try to be diligent about documenting them on this here site. i will be starting a series today titled
"for the good of all, do not destroy the birds."

This series features 14 useful birds of america that were featured in COW BRAND BAKING SODA boxes in the 1950's. All lithographs by Rouis Acassiz Puertes. they are the prettiest little collectible cards i have ever seen and i wanted to share. i am planning on framing all of them in the future and they may be available for purchase...ill keep you posted!

1. REDSTART (setophaga ruticilla)
easiest of all our warblers to identify is this little bird. The Plumage of the male is sharply contrasting black and reds, and the female has yellow for the red and ashy-green for the black of the male. very trim and smart does this bird appear as he hops from limb to limb with tail and wings outspread. In addition to picking the insects from the leaves, he seems to be also a good flycatcher and frequently takes his prey on the wing. the nest is composed of fine strips of bark and grasses and is located in forks or crotches of trees, rarely more then twenty feet high. the four or five eggs are grayish-white, spotted with brown. Range: North America.

Inspired by this love of buttons, my mum has started a new online shop called THE BUTTON JAR! please check it out and tell me what you think!
